4. Star Fruit
Star fruit, also called carambola, presents a severe biological hazard for anyone with compromised kidney function. This fruit contains caramboxin, a potent neurotoxin that healthy kidneys routinely filter and neutralize without issue.
When kidneys fail to clear caramboxin, it crosses into neurological tissue, triggering intractable hiccups, confusion, or seizures. Severe toxicity can produce life-threatening complications even after consuming small amounts of fruit or juice.
Avoid star fruit entirely if your kidney function is impaired; enjoy sweet blueberries or grapes instead.
