4. Lung Cancer

Lung cancer is the third most common cancer in the US. It mainly affects older people. Most people diagnosed with it are 65 or older; a small percentage of people diagnosed are younger than 45. The average age of those diagnosed is about 70.

Signs include constant chest pain; wheezing or shortness of breath; bone pain; a lingering cough that gets worse over time; hoarseness or other changes in the voice, coughing up blood; bone pain; regular lung infections (like bronchitis or pneumonia); frequent headaches; blood clots; and not feeling hungry.

This disease doesn’t usually cause symptoms until it has spread (also referred to as late-stage cancer). This can happen because your lungs have nerve endings, so tumors can develop there without causing pain. If you experience any of the symptoms above, see your doctor to get tested. Keep in mind that some of the signs mentioned earlier can be related to other health issues, such as asthma.
