Lettuce
Have you prepared too much lettuce for your salad? No problem! You can use this simple vegetable storage tip to keep any leftovers in a bowl with a paper towel on top of it. Then, seal the whole thing with some plastic wrap.
The towel will absorb any moisture, which is what turns leaves brown and soggy. When the towel becomes too damp, simply replace it. Another vegetable storage tip: Sprinkle the leaves with a pinch of salt. It helps draw out any extra wetness.
Apples
Apples are ethylene gas producers. This means they should be stored away from other fruits and veggies. They can be placed on the counter for up to a week or in the fridge for over a week.
And while sliced apples are a delicious snack or salad topper, browned leftovers aren’t too appealing. Here’s our fruit storage tip: Try soaking your remaining slices in a bowl of cold water with salt to prevent oxidation.
Just don’t add any more than half a teaspoon of salt per quart of water unless you want salty fruit. After about five minutes, dry and place your slices in the refrigerator in an airtight plastic bag.
