A small study was conducted in 2017 where nine elite weightlifters drank 8.5 ounces of pomegranate juice or a placebo thrice daily for three days before Olympic Weightlifting training sessions.

They had an additional 16.9 ounces of juice or a placebo an hour before training sessions. Compared with the placebo, pomegranate juice lowered the release of malondialdehyde and boosted antioxidant defenses.

This means that the drink promotes muscle recovery. Other research has shown that this juice and supplements can reduce inflammatory markers, decrease DOMS, and accelerate muscle recovery.
