2. You’re not sure of the sounds around you

An important aspect of how we interpret sound is our ability to pinpoint its source. The slight time difference between when each ear detects the sound is the basis for how we can place sounds. Our brain determines noise sources in our environment automatically based on that delay, providing us with a precise representation of their location.

But if one of our ears isn’t able to pick up the sound, our brain won’t be able to place it, which can make even normal noises feel strange or unreal. You may have a problem with one ear if you can hear noises but have trouble locating where they are originating from.

If and when you determine this happened to you lately it might be time to check out your hearing with your ear doctor. It might be a subtle sign indicating you need a hearing aid.
