Staff shortages

We cannot speak for other countries, but in the UK, the health system is going through staff shortages. And this started back in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic was a mess, and compared to other European countries, the UK had fewer medical personnel to handle the situation.

The lack of qualified healthcare workers places a great deal of strain on the current workforce, which compromises patient care and increases workloads and burnout. Additionally, it results in decreased access to healthcare services and longer wait times.

The government pledged £2.4 billion to support training expansion. However, implementing the plan will require years of consistent policy action and investment, including in the buildings, IT, and equipment required for employees to work efficiently, as well as steps to reduce staff stress while keeping them working in the NHS.

Under these conditions, there is no surprise that a lot of people are considering leaving the health care profession altogether.
