Soy milk
Soy milk is made, as you can imagine, from soybeans, and I think it’s fair to say that it’s the most popular plant-based milk alternative. It’s extremely versatile, and it can be used in pretty much any kind of recipe and drink.
The good thing about soy milk is that it’s a great source of protein and calcium, and is naturally free of cholesterol, but also low in saturated fats.
What’s not so good about soy milk is that most of the brands out there will add a ton of sugar and thickeners, and it might still represent a problem for some, given that soy is a common allergen.
From an environmental point of view, the debate is whether or not soy milk is better than cow’s milk. And as far as we know, deforestation has been a huge drawback, given that the world wants more soy and plant-based alternatives. If you want to reduce your impact, you should choose organic soy.
