2. “Do you understand?”
There are many doctors in this big world, and all of them are different. Sometimes you can find a medical practitioner with whom you immediately click and have a good relationship, while other times you meet a doctor with whom you feel that they do not treat you in the best way.
Now, if we think about all of the conversations we have with our physicians, we can for sure remember the times when they tried to explain various medical aspects. And we can also not forget how sometimes all of those details can easily get overwhelming. We can’t understand most of the medical terminology, and this is completely normal. After all, that’s why you are discussing this aspect with a doctor, right?
Asking a patient if they understand is not the best thing a doctor can do because most people will respond with “yes” even when they don’t understand. None of us wants to appear uneducated, and because of this, we tend to say that we understand even if we don’t.
A good physician should explain everything that needs to be explained in a simple manner that everybody can understand. Also, they should be prepared to answer any potential questions and never dismiss any of them.
