7. Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease
Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) is a very rare type of brain dysfunction. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, this only affects 1 person in 1 million every year. Unfortunately, this develops extremely quickly and, typically, patients infected with this die within a year of diagnosis.
Symptoms in this variety are similar to the ones we’ve previously mentioned, as patients experience agitation, memory loss, confusion, and depression. CJD also interferes with the way the body functions, which means that patients might suffer from muscle stiffness and twitching.
This health condition typically appears when a type of anomalous protein, called prions, appears in the body and generates an additional increase of prions, which then leads to cell death in the brain.
