4. How is it diagnosed?

Doctors can detect it if you are infected with helicobacter pylori with the help of 3 simple tests:

  • a breath test – they give you a certain drink, and after that, they get a sample of your breath to test. Keep in mind that in order to do this, you shouldn’t have taken any antibiotics or acid-suppressing medicines for at least 2 weeks prior to the test. Other than that, don’t eat anything at least 6 hours before the test, and you’re good to go. The reason why it’s recommended to not eat anything before the test is that it might affect the results.
