8. Cancer
What causes cancer is a very challenging question to answer; that’s a fact. Because most people receive the diagnosis only after years of cancer cell growth, it’s hard, if not pretty impossible, to identify a specific cause. Not to mention that there are several other factors, such as genes and environmental triggers like air pollution, smoking, or stress, that contribute.
But there’s some evidence suggesting that negative emotions and mental tension can play a role in developing cancer. One possible reason why stress may contribute to some forms of cancer is that emotional and physical strain can activate your body and brain’s inflammatory response as well as stimulate your adrenal gland to produce stress hormones called glucocorticoids, among many other effects.
Some studies suggest that too much of this kind of inflammation caused by chronic stress may contribute to cancer.
