1. Insomnia
A 2013 survey published by the American Psychological Association on mental tension and sleep discovered links in both directions. About 43% of the roughly 2,000 adults surveyed reported that stress had made them have trouble sleeping at night at least once in the past few weeks.
Nearly 21% of them agreed that, when they don’t sleep well, they feel more anxious. About half of those with higher self-reported stress levels (8 or above on a 10-point scale) reported that they dealt with more stress when they didn’t get enough sleep.
In contrast, adults with lower self-reported stress levels were found to sleep more hours per night than those with higher self-reported stress levels (7.1 hours per night versus 6.2).
