10 Foods You Should Never Eat As Leftovers

Mushrooms

Of all the foods on this list, mushrooms are definitely the most capable of making you physically ill. That’s because of how vulnerable mushrooms are to microorganisms.

When you eat cooked mushrooms, it’s best to eat them the minute you prepare them. But if you cooked more than just one or two dishes and you plan on eating them again the following day as leftovers, at least make sure you eat them cold from the refrigerator. It doesn’t sound very appealing, right?

I know, but reheating mushrooms can be very dangerous to your stomach, so instead of waking up with God-knows-what, eat them cold.

Beets

Beets are one of the healthiest and most delicious foods out there. And they’re not only extremely tasty, but they also have tons of nutritional benefits.

However, beets are in the same category as celery, spinach, and carrots when it comes to eating them as leftovers. They’re also rich in nitrates, and from here goes the same old story.

Your safer bet when it comes to beets is to cook only the amount you think you’re actually going to eat in one sitting. Or, if you feel comfortable and you like them like that, you can eat them cold, like on salads and such.

  1. Carrots and celery you can absolutely use them yet. Just chop them up assuming they are raw one put them in the freezer

  2. Basically what they’re saying for all these is it don’t leave them out on the counter and then eat them later as leftovers well I don’t know anybody who does such a thing of course you refrigerate it and then you reheat it completely based on this article I don’t think I’m going to read or trust anything else on this website

  3. I am 75 years old and have no disease or any medicine to take like any old person does, heating rice which is 3 days old, chicken or potato or carrot or any food that you mention is common in Asian countries and has no adverse effect in our body and I my family and friends are doing it for 75 years of my life that I know. may it be true for some people who have weak guts cause I heard and read some people die by eating leaf over rice or pasta.

  4. This article is ridiculous and instilling fear. I’ve eaten every single one of these foods hundreds of times over the years, heated and unheated, as leftovers, and never, ever have I gotten sick. I’m 75 years old so Ive been doing this for that long. As a matter of fact, many of these foods taste better and have more flavor and intensity when leftover and reheated. Back up your claims with data please!

  5. I’ve eaten everything on this list as leftovers, except beets, which I don’t like anyway. Maybe I’m just lucky, but I’ve never had a problem.
