Diabetes Myth 1: If you are obese, you will automatically have Type 2 diabetes.
This is obviously a diabetes myth, as these two conditions are different from each other, and while there is a correlation between them, it is not a known fact that having one will also lead to another. People who are considered obese or even overweight are known to be at an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes, but this is not the sole reason why someone who is overweight could end up getting the disease.
There are a number of factors that influence your risk of developing different diseases, and when it comes to type 2 diabetes, there are other facts besides being overweight. The most important factors include being extremely sedentary, suffering from high blood pressure, and having the disease as part of your familial history.
That way, your weight may be a factor, but it is not a given that you will suffer from type 2 diabetes if you need to lose a few pounds.
