5. Polycystic ovary syndrome
Another disease that gets the wrong diagnosis by doctors is polycystic ovary syndrome because it gets confused with hormonal issues. Sudden weight gain and irregular periods are two of the main symptoms that indicate there is something wrong with the ovaries.
A woman must have increased levels of the male hormones known as androgens in her blood as well as irregular or extended periods to be identified as having polycystic ovary syndrome. Unusual hair growth on the face and body may result from an excess of androgen, however, women from some ethnic groups, such as Northern Europeans and Asians, may not exhibit any outward symptoms.
