The symptoms you get from Streptococcus pneumonia are also so varied that it can be hard to catch them on the first try if someone is not running some blood tests. Depending on where the infection is located, you can develop different symptoms that are quite common, such as fever, shortness of breath, stiff neck, cough, chest pain, and even some more uncommon symptoms such as irritability, chills, confusion, disorientation, sleeplessness, sensitivity to light, and even ear and joint pain!
The reason why you should be careful about this drug-resistant disease is not only because of the illnesses it can cause, but rather because if it is not discovered and treated (which can be hard due to its resistance to different antibiotics), it can cause permanent brain damage, hearing loss, and in cases of severe infections, even death!
