Can COVID give you a sudden stroke?
The sad reality is that COVID-19 is known to be the cause of blood clots in patients who end up having a more severe form of the disease. The rapid formation of blood clots is one of the leading causes of stroke, as a bigger clot can block a vein and cause one, but they also play a big role in causing heart failure and even heart attacks.
A lot of the ICU patients that were there due to the coronavirus ended up needing to be intubated or needed specialized medical care, and the medics started to observe the phenomenon of faster clotting due to this situation. They would see that the catheters used for dialysis and the central intravenous and arterial lines would end up unexpectedly clotting!
This was one of the fears that doctors had at the start of the pandemic, and as time went by and they could observe the disease more closely, they could actually start to draw some conclusions. It isn’t that COVID is going to suddenly cause you to have a stroke, but rather that if you end up having a more severe form of coronavirus and you end up having to be admitted to the hospital because of it, you run the risk of developing a significant number of blood clots, which in turn can cause a stroke.
This is why, despite a lot of people saying that the pandemic is over, we should still be cautious and make sure that we continue to disinfect our hands before putting them around our faces.
