#4 High fever
If you found yourself searching on Google to see if it is normal to have a fever with a cold, you probably did not get a straightforward response. A lot of people think it is normal to have one, but the true response is that it is a bit more complicated than that. After all, feeling feverish is a possibility when you come down with a cold, but in the long run, if it turns into a high fever, it means there is something else at play.
A high fever is defined as a temperature of 101 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. This could mean that you haven’t just gotten a seasonal illness, but rather that you ended up contacting strep, as it is normal for patients with strep to start having high fevers the first few days of the illness. Having spikes in your body temperature is never a good sign, so if that happens to you, you should definitely see a doctor.
After all, while a common viral illness like a cold can pass with normal over-the-counter medicine, rest, and tea, something like strep will require antibiotics to get rid of since it is a bacterial infection. What’s more, if you think you just have a cold but your only symptom is a high fever, it is most definitely not that!
