Among the main reasons why people don’t want to get vaccinated for the flu is a completely unfounded fear that the shot will give them the flu. However, this is an extremely far-fetched myth. As some vaccines, like the chicken pox vaccine, have a weakened live virus to stimulate the immune response, so does the influenza vaccine.
It’s basically an inactivated vaccine made with viruses that are already killed and therefore won’t cause infections. Even if the nasal mist version of the flu vaccine has some live viruses, they are extremely weakened, so much so that the spray form cannot cause any type of illness, as the CDC explained.

I assume that this ignorant response is from someone (like me!) with liberal views about social issues. I don’t know whether the percentages cited by the CDC are correct, but I did have a close friend who died as a result of a flu shot. He developed Guillain-Barre syndrome, and the massive doses of steroids used to treat it caused a fatal heart attack. His heirs did receive $100K from a government payout. (I believe that GBS is also a known side effect all the COVID vaccines.)
I’m not an anti-vaxer, but I strongly believe that we all should have the right to control our own body. (Yeah, old men should not be telling young women what to do with their bodies.) If I had been a close relative who developed GBS following a flu shot, I don’t think that opting out of an annual flu shot would be an ignorant or irrational choice.

I used to get a flu shot every year and I would get the flu almost every year. I stopped when Covid hit.
My wife only got a flu shot once and she had a bad reaction to it. She rarily gets sick or comes down with the flu.Neither of us got the jab, we didn’t mask and continued to travel while obviously avoiding folks who were sick. Many of our friends who took the vaccine have been sick, some frequently and some very ill. My wife is 72 and I’m about to turn 71, both of us are very healthy. Neither of us will ever take another vaccine. Are we both ignorant and gullible?

I did get the Covid shots. I received the booster and that was the last Covid vaccine that I took. I DID get blood clots in my left leg. I was put on Eliquis for over a year and then was taken off of it. I will not get any other vaccines again. I do not trust the government to do the right thing.

I only actually had two situations that needed any kind of drug. I refused one, the other was an antibiotic for a bad cat bite (to the bone).

Maybe you should look into all the cases of polymyalgia rheumatica caused by inflammation from the covid vaccines. I am going on 2 1/2 years of PMR from my Pfizer covid booster. I had a six-month reprieve from prednisone, but had to go back on it a second time. This will go on for another ten months for me to see if I can get off prednisone. I got PMR, as recognized by doctors (as more and more people got PMR, doctors came to recognize PMR caused by covid vaccines.) Doctors didn’t not want to admit it at first, but after so many cases, they had to admit the cause of PMR especially as so many young people got PMR which in earlier times was just for old people.

I was a 40 year RN, now retired. Most of the time I worked in ICU, and was constantly exposed to contagious diseases. I was skeptical of the flu vaccine when it first came out, but now get it every year. I had pneumonia twice working ICU, out of work a month each time. So sick I could hardly walk the length of my hall. Both times were years I didn’t get the flu vaccine.

Yes, one thing that is actually becoming well known is D3 levels. A powerful vitamin to keep your immune system working well…most of us are very deficient in D3 – hence more illnesses. The vaccine actually made the immune system worse, not better.

I’ve worked in natural health for 35 years, where i was in cibtact with oosdible sick people most days; , I’ve worked 6 years in the classroom with sick schoolchildren. I never once got the flu shot. I was a researcher fir an immunologist in the 80’s, studying vaccines.
I rarely got sick, my children rarely got sick. We used natires immunity. We ate well, too echinecea, exta Vit C, A, D when things were going around, plus other herbs. We ate losts of greens.
You see very few people in the nutritional industry, and health food stores who work with customers who are sick coming in for supplements, who get sick. Why? Because we take our supplements and eat healthy. Get fresh air.
I’ve traveled with doctors from other nations and they say thete is more sickness in the US than anywhere they’ve beem. Despite us supposedly having more deseases es and supposedly cleaner. Its because in the west we take clean to the extreme. .we need bacteria on our skin, etc. Don’t believe me, Research this. Look at the studies of the bacteria strains in another nation’s guts , which help protect them from disease compared to the west. Most other cultures eat better, Sleep better, less anxious, Get outside more, And take herbs.

I had high dose flu vaccine. Had flu vaccine yearly x 33 years until I had lymphoma–no flu vaccine for 2 years. This year had severe reaction after vaccine–chills, myalgias, headache, anorexia–symptoms remained 24 hours–suspect I had an overload immune response. Never had this type reaction in the past

People who are afraid the flu shot could give them the flu probably had the shot or knew someone who had gotten the shot in the 1960s. That happened to me and I developed a short case of the flu. I was in college and lost a little more than a weekend that I should have been studying. It was years before I had another flu shot. Now that I’m older, I realize the need for it. But you should validate the fears of anyone who is afraid the newer shots will give them a case of the flu that the newer vaccines no longer contain the live virus.
I had a 1/2 dose of flu shot to volunteer in hospital ER. I had the flu for 14 days…pneumonia shot gave me pneumonia, even thoughi was assured it couldn’thappen….ok hmmm…never had either until I had the shots….so I will take my chances….
I used to get the flu shot every single year, however I stopped getting it a couple of years ago because {even though the CDC has said “unfounded myth of getting the flu for specific reasonings} my getting the flu every single time is NOT unfounded to me. Every single year that I received the flu shot, I got the flu.
Therefore now that I’m older and do not want to myself through any unecessary illnesses, I’ve chosen to not receive the flu shot, and guess what??! I’ve not gotten the flu.

The shot will weaken your immune system, at least temporarily. This can cause you to be susceptible to a virus.

The same thing happened to me. I used to get the flu vaccine yearly since I was a working RN. Suddenly in 2015 I became constantly ill after taking the flu vaccine. The next year I was vaccinated I became even sicker. I took one more flu shot the following year and my symptoms were so severe I ended up with pneumonia. So absolutely no more vaccines and ironically I’ve not experienced any more flu symptoms even though I’ve been exposed to all the never ending flu viruses floating around. Our first line of defense is a strong immune system. All these vaccines may work well for some but not me.
hi Joanne, this is exactly why I no longer get the flu shot as well. Every time I’ve gotten the flu shot and I do mean every single time I’ve gotten the flu shot I’ve become ill. It has put me down for 3 to 5 days at a time on each occasion. So, this is not unfounded for me either. It is very real and we are not making this up. For that reason, I have also chosen not to get the flu shot. I can’t afford to be down and unable to function almost a week every year.
The only other time I’ve had what was some kind of unexplainable flu was in January, 2020; right before COVID-19 was announced. I was diagnosed with “the flu“, but I kept telling my doctor this can’t be the flu because I have never felt like that in my entire lifebut I kept telling my doctor this can’t be the flu because I have never felt like that in my entire life.. I am now convinced that that was not the flu. I had never been so sick from a flu or taken so long to recover. Recovery took me almost 3 months. By then, we were , in the beginning of the official COVID-19 outbreak. I am now sure I had Covid and not the flu. The CDC needs to revisit their approach for those of us who have these reactions to the flu shot. This is not a one-size-fits-all situation, and we are not imagining our adverse reaction.
Bingo!! For years my family Dr. would recommend the flu shot. Me, No Thanks Dr. One year I asked him if he got the flu shot. He said, ” Heck no, I never get the flu shot. But I am required to tell my patients to get it”!
I understand – I never had a flu shot until 15 years ago – at that time I had never had the flu – I rec’d the flu shot because of pressure at work – guess what?- I wound up in the hospital for a week. Never had pneumonia, my dr talked me into it the following year because I’d gotten flu, guess what? I got pneumonia. Therefore I chose not to participate in the covid experiment – guess what? I DID NOT get covid. Go figure.
I’m with you. Working with hospice patients we had to get the flu shot,and sure enough I would be down and out for 2-3 weeks with the flu. No shots for me ever again.
Natural immunity is under valued and downplayed by the media and the big medical complex for monetary gains. The entire healthcare system is designed to never get to the root of a problem and string us along with pills and a band-aide approach to keep the money train rolling. Sure, we have made some modern advances and those are helpful especially for emergency care, but the majority of our “medicine” is not designed to cure anything. Vaccines by definition are supposed to prevent illness and we all saw the lies the CDC laid out for the Covid-19 shot. The jab did NOT prevent acquiring or spreading of the virus therefore not a vaccine. The flu shot is different than mrna creation and may work for some people on some level as we are all a little different and some have many co-morbidities which if those were addressed properly could allow our natural immune systems to beat any flu. Go look up the definition of a vaccine and trust in natural immunity, eating well, exercising, sleeping well, having love in your life, think positively, and reduce stress. The human body is simply amazing and designed to be self sufficient and treating it with care will go along way to a healthy life. Live well.
Hi Joanne , after a month I’m still recovering from a respiratory infection I caught from my fiancée who is still recovering from the same immediately after he received a combo flu vaccine , and we have not been this sick in years ! I did not get a flu shot this year because of my fear this would happen . 8 years ago I got pneumonia from Prevnar 13 and 21 to prevent meninigitis after having cochlear implant surgery I was sick both times . Who is to say vaccines don’t make you sick ? In my experience they do ! I had 3 covid vaccines until last year .. I had a really bad reaction after the third one ..Reactions can vary at different times … that was it for me . Thanks for sharing your story !

The same with me. Always had received the flu shot up to and including September 2020. (Didn’t receive but the one Covid vaccine in July 2021)
Within 15 days of getting the flu shot in 2020 I was in horrible pain in my upper body and paralysis. Eventually I was admitted to the hospital and treated for GBS. I haven’t received another flu shot since!! No way ever again after all the pain I had gone through.
By the way (knocking on wood) I haven’t had the flu since!
Had a flu shot twice in my life. Both times, it brought out flu symptoms. Call it what you want, but if it makes you feel sick, it caused the sickness. On top of it, last time left an big itchy welt on my arm for 3 months. Now, they are pushing multiple vaccines in one visit. God help us all.
My wife and I (82 year old Veteran) do NOT Trust anything the CDC, Pfizer, Moderna, FDA or the bribe taking GRIFTER in the White House says about any vaccine or flu shot! We will NOT comply and we did not and will not get the covid or flu vaccine. Period.

I get the flu shot every year. Never a problem.
However, my second Pfizer Covid vax, shortly after, caused tachycardia. ..I was reading the paper and my pulse went from 58 to 110. No exertion. Then I had vertigo for the first time in my life. Headaches like a sledgehammer on my head. Couldn’t walk. Vision blacked out. No feeling from knees down. Felt awful for a week. Saw a cardiologist who put me on a heart monitor. Never any heart problems in my life until now. 6 months later it was time for my booster. My heart was better!

Every body is different. One size does not fit all. Some do fine with the flu shot. Others react negatively to it. Our minds are also powerful contributors to our experiences as well. I support people’s choice in this matter.
My Mom lived to 103. She and her siblings (all who lived up to their mid-nineties) never missed a single shot. I received the polio vaccine (on a sugar cube) as a child. I’ve had flu, shingles, tetanus, RSV, pneumonia, COVID and boosters without a single side effect.

I am not an anti vaxxer in any way, but I do believe in being educated in what’s going in one’s body. My son has Macrophagic myofasciitis and is 100% service connected disabled. He is only 37 and his life has been changed drastically by this. It is not uncommon for him to be in the hospital numerous times a year, for days at a time. The belief is it is due to the adjuvants, specifically aluminum, , in vaccines. Specifically the flu and anthrax vaccines. My granddaughter and I are highly latex allergic. Some vaccines do contain a small amount of latex. The administering Dr’s usually don’t know these things, and even knowing our severe allergies, said it was safe. Sorry, not risking those that do. My husband is a scientist. I understand how science works. But I also, before getting any vaccines or taking any med’s, do my homework as to what is in them.

I am a retired nurse & have never got the vaccines .I guess you can say I am a scared chicken. I did have Covid 19 a year ago at this time & felt like crap for 4 days, still will not get the Vaccine. Maybe I just hate needles!

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Getting sick is natural and builds your immune system making it stronger. You are better off getting sick while you are younger so you will be stronger when you get older. You will be more well prepared for a virus if you never get vaccinated.

I only got the flu two or three times in over 30 years. I decided to try again in my 50’s. My husband got it every year with no reactions, although he still got the flu twice a year. I had eight weeks of severe muscle aches and exhaustion. I could hardly make it through a four-hour shift, and my usual scheduled eight hours were torture. Never got one again. I’m 65.
The article conveniently neglects to mention that the flu shots contain thimerosal, which is a mercury derivative, and a deadly neurotoxin. Please explain to me how this could possibly be beneficial to someone’s immune system! And how could this possibly be helpful to a pregnant woman, whose baby relies on it’s mother for immune protection. There are many peer reviewed studies that show that the unvaxxed are significantly more healthy than the vaxxed. My wife is a School Teacher and has taken the flu vaccine forever with no problems. This past year 2023 in October she was given the High Dose since she was 65. She come home complaining of pain at the injection site and the pain has spread to all her joints and she says even her skin hurts. After multiple visits to her Doctor and to Vanderbilt hospital for MRI’s, the pain hasn’t gone away. I’m sure she will never take any vaccine again.

I am a Nurse. We are not required to take the shot for the flu. I choose not to take it. Have refused it for the last ten years. Have not had the flu . I also did not take the COVID shot. Never got COVID. My married son and his family took it, and the three of them got COVID three times . You tell me. I have met many people who have taken the shots and then get the flu or COVID, guess it is a personal choice. I choose against it.
The problem with vaccines is that they are the wrong route. Normal immunity is built in the airway and the GI tract when the airway mucus with its trapped pollutants is swallowed. These tracts are technically outside the body.
Injecting a foreign agent, even a weakened one is not a normal experience.
Such a practice should be studied in animals over at least two or three generations before being used in humans.

I have had ONE Flu shot by my Doctor and she mentioned, as I asked about side effects. She mentioned possible itchy feeling near the shot area and possible loss if strength in that arm which shecsaid is usually short lived.
The itchiness did not affect me but the loss of strength in my arm did have a SEVERE problem for me it lasted SEVERAL months before I regained my strength and it is still not as it should be and probably never will fully recover.
NEVER AGAIN will I get a Flu Shot, I believe if you are constantly around young children who are carrying the virus you probably will get the flu.
When my kids were young they got it and I did also. Now they are adults I have not had the Flu for 30 plus years, probably because no direct contact.

Several years ago va insisted that I take the flu shot prior to other vaccines(guinea pig vaccines my opinion) however, three hours later, my arm became swollen, sore, and very painful, that I was not able raise my arm; I called the VA doctor, received no response, thereafter a requested transfer to another physician I was informed that it was a bad batch and I could have died.
so at 84 years old vaccines are not going to be accepted unless absolutely necessary.
p.s. unfortunately two siblings died during the COVID vaccines(stop lying on Trump)

My brother doesn’t get sick. He does have Osteomyelitis in his leg after an accident as a child and it recurs every so often.
He had to have surgery done to fix it a few uears back and they have monitored him closely. He had surgery to fix it when he was 8, too.
After the COVID vaccine, he developed a blood clot in his vein in the leg where he had surgery. This didn’t happen when he was 8. This didn’t happen with the last flare up before he had the surgery, it didn’t happen right after the surgery. It happened after he got the shot.
Since they were monitoring, they were able to remove the clot in time. My brother is only 42.
And after they lied so much about the covi why would i trust any thing the AMA are the cdcp have to say It seeem WHO is the one that gives them there orders dr falce taught us enough to NEVER trust the government
I got the flu shot once and it caused my brain to swell resulting in having to relearn EVERYTHING including walking…..I’m good.
A couple of years back i received the flu and covid booster at same visit to clinic, 2 hours later i was transported to emergency room. Very high blood pressure 260/140 which caused bleeding in my right eye. I believe that overall vaccines have been helpful to many folks, however i also believe that there are a number of people that cannot tolerate vaccines. For years I got the flu shot and each time i felt sick for a few days. Most doctors I know seem to acknowledge there are bad reactions to these vaccines, any time a doctor speaks out about issues with vaccines they get labeled an antivaxer or worse.
