8. Snake Plant

Commonly known as Mother-In-Law’s Tongue, the snake plant is an evergreen perennial that’s known for its air-purifying properties.

According to researchers, it’s one of the best indoor plants for absorbing airborne chemicals, including xylene, benzene, nitrogen oxide, formaldehyde, and trichloroethylene. If you’re struggling with allergies or asthma, a snake plant may help your lungs breathe cleaner air.

Although native to Western Africa, this plant is now widely grown across the world. It can endure low-light conditions for a long period of time, but it does best in bright light. Just be careful not to overwater it, as the soil tends to rot if it’s too moist for too long.
