Clifford Rosen, MD, the director of the Center for Clinical and Translational Research at the Maine Medical Center Research Institute founded in Scarborough, Maine, knows many things about vitamin D. In fact, he was one of the members at the Institute of Medicine committee that established the recommendations on “sunshine vitamin”.

So he was astounded when he discovered that his friends were popping as much as 5,000 IU of vitamin D every day, which was far higher than the recommended 4,000 IU. “Most definitely 80% of the people I know take vitamin D.” as Dr. Rosen confirmed. “And when I ask them why they would respond that it’s not harmful.
