Depression
No less than 14% of seniors sought treatment for depression at some point. Depression, as far as we managed to discover, is a condition that’s not a normal part of aging at all. It is responsible for causing feelings of sadness, pessimism, hopelessness, tiredness, difficulty making easy decisions, changes in appetite, and a great loss of interest in activities.
There are a couple of things that you can do in order to avoid or alleviate its symptoms, such as:
- Properly manage your stress levels – if you’re under a lot of stress, contact your family and friends and ask for help or consider meditation.
- Eat a healthy diet – what you eat has a great impact on your overall mood, so make sure you choose food that is high in nutrients and helps you release endorphins and other “feel good” chemicals. Also, make sure you limit as much as possible the consumption of alcohol, caffeine, artificial sweeteners, but also highly processed foods.
- Exercise – exercising has more benefits than we could count, such as improving your overall mood, boosting your self-confidence, and also increasing socialization through different gym classes and marathons.
- Talk to your doctor – if you can easily check a couple of the warning signs of depression, you should talk to your doctor, and ask for the best treatment options, as psychotherapy might help you out.
