
6. Lifestyle Factors
Most studies related to dementia have shown that our lifestyle choices can have a significant impact on our risk of developing mental disorders. Evidence shows that people with various healthy behaviors, especially in their 40s, 50s, and 60s, have the lowest chance of developing dementia.
These behaviors include keeping a healthy diet, drinking alcohol only in moderation, not smoking, and engaging in regular mental, social, and physical activity. The risk of mental disorders is lowest in those who do at least three of these behaviors. When just one or two of these behaviors are done, the risk is reduced by a very small amount.
