4. Skin infections
People with diabetes tend to develop skin infections more frequently because they are more susceptible to fungal growth or infections. If you have noticed swollen, red, and painful areas on your skin, it’s time to pay attention to your health.
These skin infections can manifest in various ways. They can appear as blisters, red marks, and sometimes in more sensitive areas such as the genital region.
In women with diabetes, Candida albicans infections commonly occur, characterized by white discharge resembling cottage cheese. This yeast-like fungus can cause itching and redness in the affected area.
Fungal infections can also occur between the toes or on the nails. Fungal infections are generally challenging to treat and tend to recur periodically.
